Differences in COVID-19 mortality in males and females: Is estrogen hormone attributing to sex differences?

چکیده
Objectives: Globally, the case fatality ratio is more in males versus females. Some studies have suggested estrogen hormone decreases susceptibility to SARS CoV-2. We analyzed observed sex differences COVID-19 behavior and females clinical profiles of different age groups patients discussed their symptoms, laboratory evaluations, associated comorbidities. Material Methods: The were tested for through real-time RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) assay. data obtained studied epidemiological, clinical, characteristics from medical records. Results: mortality rate was 12.33% (36/292) whereas 19.63% (84/428). In between group analysis, 8.7% (14/161) died <40 years 16.8% (22/131) than 40 males, 13.7% (21/153) 22.9%(63/275). women older greater younger emphasizing protection provided by them. proportion who expired due significantly differs cutoff years, X2 (1, n = 428). difference statistically significant at P < 0.05. Males are likely expire. Conclusion: Sex-related coronavirus pandemic been found pointing toward protective role other immunological Downregulation ACE2 expression, thereby reducing viral entry, might also be contributory decreasing

متن کاملBehavioural and cognitive sex/gender differences in autism spectrum condition and typically developing males and females.
Studies assessing sex/gender differences in autism spectrum conditions often fail to include typically developing control groups. It is, therefore, unclear whether observed sex/gender differences reflect those found in the general population or are particular to autism spectrum conditions. A systematic search identified articles comparing behavioural and cognitive characteristics in males and f...
متن کاملCognition in Males and Females with Autism: Similarities and Differences
The male bias in autism spectrum conditions (ASC) has led to females with ASC being under-researched. This lack of attention to females could hide variability due to sex that may explain some of the heterogeneity within ASC. In this study we investigate four key cognitive domains (mentalizing and emotion perception, executive function, perceptual attention to detail, and motor function) in ASC,...
متن کاملDifferences between males and females in the Hollander insulin test.
When treating duodenal ulcer by vagotomy surgeons aim at dividing all the vagal secreto-motor fibres to the stomach. In order to assess whether this aim had been achieved, Hollander (1948) developed the insulin test which has proved a valuable clinical method of judging whether the vagi have been divided completely. The criteria by which the acid secretory response of the stomach to insulin-ind...
متن کاملSex Differences in Spatial Memory in Brown-Headed Cowbirds: Males Outperform Females on a Touchscreen Task
Spatial cognition in females and males can differ in species in which there are sex-specific patterns in the use of space. Brown-headed cowbirds are brood parasites that show a reversal of sex-typical space use often seen in mammals. Female cowbirds, search for, revisit and parasitize hosts nests, have a larger hippocampus than males and have better memory than males for a rewarded location in ...
